Pixel 6 Devices Hit by Bricking Issue After Android 15 Update

It has been almost a week since Google started releasing the Android 15 update for Pixel devices. The new Android 15 has several improvements compared to the previous version. Google’s Android 15 rollout for Pixel devices hit a major snag as Pixel 6 owners face a critical “bricking” issue, rendering their phones unusable.

The Private Space feature on Android 15 causes bricking problems.

Users of Reddit reported experiencing bricking their Pixel 6 devices after enabling the Private Space feature. One of the users observed that their phone bricked immediately after opening the app in a Private Space. Despite having sufficient battery life, another user reported that their device died during regular use. The standard troubleshooting approaches, which involved either holding the Power and Volume Down buttons or connecting them to a computer, were not effective.

After installing Android 15, some users have noticed that the wallpaper no longer adjusts brightness like it did on Android 14. Previously, it would brighten during the day and darken automatically when battery saving mode or night mode was activated, but now it remains constantly dark.

The Pixel 6 series has been plagued by issues with previous updates, with reports of Android 14 updates locking some users out of their storage last year, and more recently, factory resets rendering many Pixel 6 devices unresponsive.

This is another example of why caution should always be exercised before installing new updates. Yes, updating your phone is important from a security standpoint, but there have been so many cases of things going wrong over the years that you need to take precautions. Regularly back up your phone, so you do not lose access to files and photos, and at the very least push that backup through before installing any software updates.

Ensure that you proceed with caution and verify the safety of all your data in case anything goes wrong. Alternatively, one may want to wait for Google to release a fix before proceeding.
