Amazon’s new Vega OS comes to Fire TV Stick 4K Select

By now, you must have already known about losing support for side-loaded apps on Fire TV Sticks 4K Select. Well, there is more. Since the platform won’t be using Android-based Fire OS, all the Fire TV apps will be rewritten. Their new OS is known as Vega OS, and some streaming platforms have already gained access to the OS and started building compatible services. And their all-new Fire TV Stick 4k Select (hoping that Amazon will change this name) will come with VEGA OS and its compatible apps. Since they are running on a tight schedule, Amazon might change its decision. Maybe they will run all their apps in the cloud-based service with a device interface as Vega OS. Similar to what we have seen on Xbox and Amazon Luna.

Those apps that are compatible with Vega OS will be named as “Amazon Cloud-Hosted app”, and those running on the cloud-based service will be known as “Amazon Cloud App Streaming.” The games and the downloader app will not be available in the new version. It will be a pure video streaming service. The developers will have a choice to tunnel the user’s IP address for a better targeted ad experience. For the first 9 months, Amazon will provide developers with cloud service for the developers to develop their apps, and after that, based on the number of active users, they will charge them.

The 9-month program sounds like a pit for both the users and the developers. If the developers won’t be able to build their app in the given time frame, then they are forced to join the paid program, and there might be chances where developers ditch the service at the last moment, too.

Like we have seen, how cloud-based services like Google Stadia and OnLive had their miserable failure because they were too ahead of their time. Due to lag and connectivity issues, users were not able to enjoy the full potential. This is something that Amazon is also going to face.

The tech behind this is immense, and there will be a lot of technical issues along with it. All the users using the device won’t be aware of it, and this might affect their business in the wrong way. Stay connected to us for frequent updates on the tech world.
