Chromecast along with the Roku are the most successful streaming devices sold in 2013. Google sold 3.8 million Chromecast streaming sticks last year. A report says streaming devices sales are on the rise and will be in more than 25% of U.S. homes by 2015.
This Report also claims that Roku is beating Apple TV not just in rate of sales growth but also in average amounts of usage. But Chromecast usage by contrast, has gone down. which Google denied by producing evidence showing that average usage is in fact going up. Parks Associates claimed that its data isn’t contradictory.
The rumors Apple’s move into either its own HDTV unit (presumably with Apple TV technology included) or a revamp of its existing set-top box comes even as interest in television generally is falling. While a number of individual programs are continuing to attract large mainstream audiences, Americans in particular are spending less and less time in front of their expensive TV sets — and least when it comes to traditional consumption of programming.
Meanwhile Roku thus far is only available in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Ireland may be this is the reason that Roku is more popular because they focus on these few countries whereas Apple is selling its Apple TV in dozens of countries. Google is quickly expanding its international reach as well: After launching just in the U.S. in 2013, Chromecast is now available in 19 countries.
