Google Unveils Cast to Nearby Feature for Pixel Tablet, Releasing Soon

Earlier today Google announced the Android 15 update, which also happens to be the soon October 2024 Pixel Feature Drop. The company has often been focused on bringing software tweaks more than any major overhaul over some time. But it’s not the case with the new update.

With this new announcement, Google has revealed what’s in store for us. But among them, one that stands out is the “Cast to Nearby” feature.
Google has confirmed that the “Cast to Nearby” feature will be launching in the next few weeks. The company officially stated, “All you have to do is bring your phone close to your tablet, and your favorite Spotify songs or YouTube videos will seamlessly move over without the extra steps of tapping the cast icon”. This means that you will be able to cast media from your Pixel tablets to your Pixel phones.

But there’s a catch, the feature will not be available for all Pixel devices as of yet. It will come to a handful of Pixel products such as Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel Tablet.

Pixel devices such as the Pixel 6A, Pixel 7A, Pixel 8A, Pixel 6, Pixel 7, Pixel 8, and Pixel 9 will have to wait for a while as the company hasn’t officially revealed the timeline for these devices to receive the “Cast to Nearby” feature. Not only the Pixel mobiles, but Google also hasn’t officially announced the feature to arrive on its recently launched Google Streamer as well.

Apart from the “Cast to Nearby,” Google has also revealed some of its new updates for the Pixel phone lineup.

Theft protection, Private Space, Pixel Weather app, Pollen Data Block, Gemini Extensions for Pixel Shortcuts, Astrophotography, Night Sight for Instagram, Underwater Photography and Video, Object Temperature Sensor, Widget Discovery, Adaptive Vibration, Next Gen Call Screen, Gemini Live (audio), Audio Magic Eraser, to name a few.

Whereas for the Pixel Tablet’s October Pixel Feature Drop, some of the new updates are mentioned below.

Cast to nearby pixel devices, Notification Dismissals/Syncing, Panel Screensaver, Photo Frame Actions, and Clock Screensavers.

Lastly, the Pixel Buds now support Google’s Gemini. It now allows you to speak with Gemini without taking your phone out. The feature is available on a handful of Pixel Buds, such as the original Pixel Buds, Pixel Buds A-Series, Pixel Buds Pro, and the Pixel Buds Pro 2.
