Must See: Google confirms an AI chatbot is coming to its search engine

Google is calling NotebookLM “an experimental offering from Google Labs.” The app is like Chat-GPT offering notes on any topic. It can summarise insights, facts, and other ideas which will surely help users streamline a lot of tasks and other work.

NotebookLM is an experimental product designed to use the power and promise of language models paired with your existing content to gain critical insights, faster. Think of it as a virtual research assistant that can summarize facts, explain complex ideas, and brainstorm new connections—all based on the sources you select.

A key difference between NotebookLM and traditional AI chatbots is that NotebookLM lets you “ground” the language model in your notes and sources. Source-grounding effectively creates a personalized AI that’s versed in the information relevant to you. Starting today, you can ground NotebookLM in specific Google Docs that you choose, and we’ll be adding additional formats soon.

How to use NotebookLM

The app requires a connection with Google Docs so that it can save summaries, questions, and other ideas. There are actually three ways that you can make the most of the NotebookLM.

  1. Summarize: You can ask to summarize some topics or broad texts for better understanding. NotebookLM will surely compress the text and will output primary ideas.
  2. Inquire: NoteBookLM also offers detailed ideas and answers to your elaborated questions. It can even understand Questions uploaded in paper format and can create answers on the basis of the question.
  3. Brainstorm: Forming an idea from the text and questions is the primary feature of the NotebookLM. The user can Brainstorm the idea of business, or anything that requires introspection.

The data and the interactions remain private and secure, and no data is collected to train AI models.
