LG Upgrades 2022 OLED TVs with Chromecast and Dolby Vision Filmmaker Mode

In a bold move to reinforce its commitment to longevity, LG has unveiled webOS 24 for select 2022 TVs, breathing new life into older models. After introducing its smart TV operating system in January of last year for 2024 models and upgrading the 2023 versions in October, LG has now provided a fresh software upgrade to the C2, G2, and two Objet OLED models, elevating the viewing experience to new heights.

WebOS 24 enhances the user experience with an upgraded Quick Cards system for quick access to favorite settings and apps, complemented by a personalized content rail offering suggestions tailored to your viewing habits. With the addition of Google Chromecast, streaming content from your Android phone or tablet to your OLED TV has never been more seamless or captivating.

Dolby Vision Filmmaker Mode elevates the viewing experience on the 2022 models with a groundbreaking upgrade. This update allows the C2 and G2 models to showcase content using this picture preset, extending beyond just SDR and HDR10.

Currently, the webOS 24 system update, identified as firmware version 23.20.56, is being gradually rolled out to reduce server strain. However, for eager users, the latest software can be downloaded directly from LG’s website for manual installation. The update is progressing well, with more 2022 models—likely the B2 OLED TV and several QNED backlit variants—expected to receive it in the coming weeks.

LG has pledged to continue upgrading its 2022 models with webOS 25 in 2026 and webOS 26 in 2027, ensuring owners enjoy cutting-edge features for a few more years before considering a hardware upgrade.

To ensure your TV updates automatically during idle power mode, enable automatic updates in the settings menu. If your TV hasn’t updated yet, you can manually check for an over-the-air update by pressing the settings button on your remote, navigating to “All Settings,” selecting “Support,” and clicking “System Update.”
