Google is planning a backlit remote with Google TV Streamer in the future. Google TV Streamer got the first software update of 2025 a few days back. In this update there is a hidden code that shows the new backlight for the remote. However, the Google TV Streamer remote doesn’t have backlit buttons on it.
Some other third-party Google TV devices like the Walmart Onn 4K Pro, do have the backlit buttons on there remotes. So, the new backlight controls might be for 3rd-party devices. But generally, the controls for the remote backlight must be done by the manufacturer. So, Google might be working on its own premium remote with Blacklight buttons, as its other competitors like Fire TVs and Roku have premium backlit remotes.
According to AFTV News, the latest Google TV streamer update code has references to a backlight for Google TV remotes. The code shows there are 3 backlight modes i.e. Never, Standard, and Scheduled.
When you select the Never mode, the backlight on the remote will be turned off. On selecting standard backlight will turn on for 5 seconds with each press. At last, you can also schedule the backlight for a particular time 7 PM to 6 AM.
