Plex is a media server platform that is used to organize, stream, and access the personal collection of content that includes movies, songs, etc. Earlier it was free, but now Plex has announced that remote playback from a Plex server will not be available for free after April 29th, 2025. You need to buy a Remote Watch Pass that will cost you $1.99/month or $19.99/year.
As remote streaming will be paid now, Plex is removing the one-time activation fee that removes the playback limitations in the Plex app.
However, there is a paid service from Plex that is called Plex Pass, which includes many features like live TV & DVR, premium music features, downloads, bandwidth and transcoding limits, etc. The price of Plex Pass will also be increased after 29th April 2025.
Price of Plex Pass now:
- Monthly: Around $4.99/month
- Yearly: Around $39.99/year
- Lifetime: Around $119.99 one-time payment
Price of Plex Pass after April 29th:
- Monthly: Around $6.99/month
- Yearly: Around $69.99/year
- Lifetime: Around $249.99 one-time payment
So if you want to purchase the Plex Pass, do it before April 29th, 2025. You can read our article on how to use Plex on Chromecast.
