Since its inception in 2016. the Pixel lineup has the gold standard when it comes to experiencing Android at its purest. These devices were known to sport the best camera at their time. This new line of Pixel devices is no different. What makes it even more fun is that the new Pixel 6 lineup is more than just a new set of cameras. Google went on to such extends that they decided to design a new Chipset that could take advantage of Google’s best in class AI and ML (Machine Learning).

Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro: Google’s Answer to Apple?!

Google starts The Keyword for the Pixel 6 and the 6 Pro with the pricing of their new flagships. An odd yet another tactic from Google. According to Google, the Pixel 6 is an all-around phone that starts at only $599. The Pixel 6 Pro is an upgrade to its sibling, and this one starts at $899.

Design of the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro

The new Pixel devices have a bold new design outside, with Android 12 doing all the heavy lifting from the inside. Sure there is no need for an introduction to Android 12. We’ve already covered the new face of Android in over a couple of articles. The changes lie in the clean and symmetrical design of the new Pixel devices. A raised camera bar takes up the back, hinting that Pixel phones are all about best shots. Both the phones have a metal back that we’ve missed for quite a while now. It makes the new Pixel devices look and feel like a luxury watch instead of a block of glass.

Under the hood

The changes under the hood are more impressive than others. The Pixel 6 lineup features the new Google Tensor chipset. As the name indicates, this one was built from the ground by Google. The new chipset packs in a ton of potential for the future of smartphones. This custom SoC is designed around industry-leading AI from Google. The 5nm chipset, in combination with the Mali-G78 MP20 GPU, could take care of all the floating-point operations from your favourite game like a pro. These devices come with the next-gen Titan M2. Paired with Tensor security core, the M2 protects your sensitive data, PINs and passwords. You could get the Pixel 6 Pro with 12 gigs of RAM and 128/256/512 gigs of UFS 3.1 storage. As for the Pixel 6, you’re getting 8 gigs of RAM and 128/256 gigs of storage. The new Pixel lineup will come with 5 years of security updates, so you might not have to upgrade anytime soon.

Camera and Display

Google is good with its image processing techniques. The Pixel 6 Pro comes with a 50MP sensor. Paired with the 48MP telephoto lens and 12MP ultrawide sensor, you could expect some great shots from the 6 Pro. Pixel 6 users, on the other hand, will be missing that telephoto lens from the 6 Pro. The updated camera app will feature Real Tone, Magic Eraser, Action Pan and Long Exposure that could shed a lot of cropping and corrections.

Google has done a great job with the display. The Pro variant comes with a 1440p LTPO AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The regular variant only gets a 1080p AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. Both the devices are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Not just smart

The new Pixel devices feature improved speech recognition. The language understanding models also receive their fair share. Google Assistant can finally help you prepare a mail for your HR. Live Translate lets you chat with people speaking other languages, including English, French, German, Italian and Japanese. The feature will work with apps like Snapchat, WhatsApp and Messenger.

That should wrap things up for now. The real question is how well Google be able to place itself in the list of smartphone makers. Yeah, the new Google Tensor looks promising on paper. Can it become the chipset Google wants it to be?. Only time will tell.
