Walmart launches affordable Google TV Box at $20 to compete FireTV Stick and CCWGTV

Walmart, one of the largest retail chains in the world, has announced a new product that could challenge Amazon’s Fire Stick and Google’s Chromecast. The retail giant has quietly launched its streaming device, called the Onn 4K Streaming Device with Google TV, which costs only $20 and runs on Google’s smart TV platform. The same device was spotted on FCC a while ago.

Walmart launches Onn Google TV 4K Streaming Box

In 2021, the retail giant tried its hand in the streaming device battle when it released the Onn Android TV 4K Box, which competently functioned as a cheaper alternative to Google’s dongle. Priced at $30, the device could stream video in 4K, though its cheap remote and lack of HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos limited it against competitors.

The new 4K Google TV streaming device appears slightly improved over the previous one. The latest version boasts a faster Amlogic chip that supports AV1 decoding, 2GB of RAM, and  8GB of storage. While Dolby Audio is supported, HDR or Dolby Vision support is not mentioned on the store listing. It will also come with a new remote with quick access to Google Assistant voice controls and streaming services like YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, and Paramount+ (replacing Amazon Prime Video from the previous model).

One of the main advantages of the Onn 4K Streaming Device with Google TV is that it runs on Google’s latest smart TV platform, launched last year as a successor to Android TV.

The Onn 4K Streaming Device with Google TV is Walmart’s answer to other low-cost streaming devices like the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K and the Google Chromecast with Google TV. While these devices offer similar features and performance, Walmart’s device has a massive edge in price.

Despite appearing on Walmart’s website, the dongle is unavailable for sale online. Although the merchant allows you to buy the device in-store, none of the recommended locations has it in stock.

The device’s low price point and wide range of content options make it a compelling choice for budget-conscious consumers. So, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly way to upgrade your TV experience, you might want to try the Onn 4K Streaming Device with Google TV from Walmart.
