Google might be cooking a new Chromecast dongle

Chromecast from Google might’ve been the single device that revolutionized the TV industry. At first, these tiny devices enabled the users to stream content from phones and PCs to the TV. Years later, these devices are now capable of reviving old TVs. All you need is a Chromecast with Google TV dongle, and you have a new Google TV that can stream at any streaming standard from any service. And now it seems Google might be cooking a new Chromecast dongle with Google TV. This newly rumoured Chromecast device from Google will likely be an updated 2020 Chromecast with Google TV.

The Chromecast with Google TV from 2020 has been a great success. The open market might’ve been a fueling factor as there were very few Google TV dongles that were affordable. The device’s success forced Google to update Android TV UI to something similar to the new Google TV UI.

Google and their new Chromecast dongle

The APK Insight team from 9to5Google extracted information on the upcoming Chromecast device while working with an APK. The new device is codenamed Boreal. However, there was no information on the underlying hardware or features of the new device. We believe Google might keep this a premium one for quite a while. No one was to replace the best selling product, do they?. Google might also follow the same principle. They won’t be replacing the 2020 Chromecast with Google TV dongle with this one.

Instead, we hope they’ll market this as a premium streaming dongle. This theory can be further validated if we look into the sales of premium streaming dongles like the Nividia Shield TV. So chances are Google might launch this one as a new Chromecast box instead of a hanging dongle. Even though there is no information on the underlying hardware, we hope Google, at the very least, will upgrade the onboard storage.

Also, considering how fast OTT platforms are nourishing in this pandemic, Google might launch their new streaming device in 2022 itself. We might have to wait a little longer to get exact numbers and dates.
