Netflix is globally known for its streaming services and vast content library. The service seems to leave no stone unturned to give commission for third-party payment services such as Apple’s App Store. Netflix first introduced a similar notification in 2018, but it was not applied to existing users who pay via Apple’s App Store. Well, now the company is no longer allowing these users to pay through Apple due to a 15% commission rule on payments.

Netflix’s Shuts Down Apple’s App Store Payment Option for Existing Users

The convenience and the single bill for a whole month are some advantages of using Apple Pay, but the vendor has to pay for the convenience as a 15% fee for each transaction. Netflix wants to shift these users to its platform payment system, saving capital for the streaming service. Even though it has become a point of discussion among both companies, till now no actual progress has been made.

Netflix has already started notifying customers across some regions. Currently, the notification is seen on the Netflix US accounts. However, we are not sure if the remaining regions will still have the option to pay via Apple’s App Store Payment System.

Along with several other vendors, Netflix has also barred itself from creating a dedicated Apple Vision Pro headset app.

Additionally, Netflix currently has 260 million subscribers, and that number seems to increase in the coming years. The effect of the new payment policy might affect a few users, but they will ultimately shift to additional payment methods.
