Google launched the Chromecast with Google TV back in September 2020. Unlike a smartphone that becomes obsolete after a year of its launch, these streaming devices are somewhat of a permanent solution. The Realme 4K Smart Google TV Stick (god knows who named this one) is the latest and only streaming device from Realme. It seems Realme is trying to become the next Xiaomi with products that check all your needs.

There are various things that you need to consider while buying a streaming device. Both our candidates are not sold in the same country, so keep that in mind. Say, for example, the Realme Stick (just for the sake of simplicity) is available in India but not in the US. Whereas the Chromecast device is available in the US but not in India. But we expect these products to be launched in all major markets across the globe soon.

Pricing

Nothing is more important than the price of the product when it comes to buying a streaming device. Because even if we purchase either of these devices, we’ll have to keep on paying the monthly subscription fees for our favourite streaming services. So it is logical to assume that most of us will be looking for the cheapest option we could get our hands-on. The Chromecast with Google TV can be purchased from the official website for roughly $50. Google also offers the device with 6 months subscription to either HBO Max or Netflix as value packs.

Realme launched their new Realme 4K Smart Google TV Stick on October 13 in India. The device will cost you around ₹2,999 (roughly $40). The device is now on offer, The actual price would be around ₹3,999 (or $53). Even then, the Realme Stick seems like a great deal because the product is brand new.

Features and Specifications

Both the devices share the same operating system. So do expect things to look the same. However, we think the Chromecast device might have the upper hand since it is a Google product. The name of the Realme Stick speaks for itself. You won’t have to look anywhere else to know the features of the device. Both devices are capable of delivering 4K in various HDR standards.

Realme streaming device comes with 2 gigs of RAM and 8 gigs of storage. The device is powered by a 4 core Arm Cortex-A53 CPU and a dual-core GPU. The Chromecast with Google TV has an onboard storage of 8 gigs. Apart from that, there is very little information on the underlying hardware of the device.

Chromecast has the best remote with the ability to control the TV and other IR controllable devices. Remotes for both the devices offer basic controls such as voice assistant, mute, volume, d-pad, etc. Both remotes feature dedicated buttons to access your favourite apps. The Chromecast device is shipped with a USB-C port. So we have the option to connect a bunch of storage and peripheral devices with the help of a USB-C Hub.

On paper, both these devices are somewhat identical. We believe Realme has had a good start considering the competition. If we were to recommend one, we’d recommend that you go with the Realme Stick, as it’s a newer launch. This might be the right time for Indian users looking for a 4K streaming device with Google TV. Realme could’ve gone with a USB-C port for charging and connecting external devices to the device.

However, the users from the US can choose Chromecast with Google TV.
