Amid the launch of Gemini and the December Pixel Feature Drop, Google is taking care of its only streaming hardware, i.e., Chrome with Google TV 4K and HD, by bringing the October 2023 security patch update. The new update brings the latest security patch, which will strengthen the security of the device.
The Chromecast with Google TV (HD) is receiving STTE.230915.005.T1 while the 4K model is receiving firmware STTE.230915.005.S1. The update on the HD model weighs around 36.37 MB, and the 4K model is around 104MB in size. Any other details about the update or any official changelog are not present for the HD model. However, the Chromecast with Google TV 4K model does carry a small changelog that mentions some “bug fixes and performance improvements.”
For the past couple of months, Google has been regularly pushing the security patch update; otherwise, the Android TV OS is always seen lagging in the security patch update race. Last month, Chromecast with Google TV HD received a September 2023 security patch update.
There’s nothing extraordinary in the update. However, users can always check for updates by heading to Settings > System > About > System Update.
A new Chromecast with fresh hardware is long overdue, and even the users of the present Chromecast are looking for the Android TV 13 update. Unfortunately, all the Chroemcasts have been stuck on Android TV 12 for a long time.
On the other hand, Amazon has recently fully revamped its Fire TV Stick lineup with new models. To remain competitive, Google should also launch new Chromecast models with distinctive features. However, Google introduced several new changes in Android and even rolled out the December Pixel Feature drop. it unveiled ChatGPT-4 competition, i.e., Gemini AI.
