Google rolls out July Security Patch 2023 on Chromecast with Google TV 4K variant globally. This year we have seen Google is very punctual in rolling out firmware updates on its Chromecast sticks. The latest update changes the firmware version of Chromecast with Google TV 4K from STTE.230319.008.H1 to STTE.230615.004.
It’s the first update since July 2023. However, Chromecast with Google TV 4K still runs on Android 12. The update includes Bug fixes and performance improvements. Other than the Security patch there is not any new feature in the update. Although there is some noise about the Android 14 update for Chromecast. So we might see Android 14 on Chromecast in the future.
Usually, the updates on Chromecast automatically pop up but if your Chromecast has not gotten the update till now. Then you can try it manually by going through Settings > System > About > System update.
In recent news, it is said that Google is planning for a new Chromecast with a better processor and upgraded remote controller. The New Chromecast might be powered with Amlogic S905X5 soc which is developed on a 6nm process and consumes 50% less power.
Talking about the remote, in Android 14 Beta a video of the remote is found that resembles the Chromecast remote. It has more circular single buttons, two double buttons, and a new start button. However, the new star button can be used as a customized button through which you can select your favorite app to open.
