Google rolls out ChromeOS 109 with battery saving improvements and more

The support for Android apps in Chromebook has helped it to grow significantly over the years. Google has now started rolling ChromeOS 109 to Chromebooks out there. The update will reach your device in the upcoming days. Even though the update doesn’t bring many changes, it is a stable update with some good feature integrations. The update comes with firmware version 109.0.5414.94 and platform version 15236.66.0.

The update will bring a performance menu in browser settings with memory and energy saver features. The toggles for the same can be seen on the new icons at the top-right of the Chrome window. One can easily toggle between the battery or RAM-preserving approach. Earlier, users need to enable the features with the flags listed below.

  • chrome://flags/#battery-saver-mode-available
  • chrome://flags/#high-efficiency-mode-available.

Google adds a custom color picker for the Annotate feature. It has a HEX field beside the 20 presets under Palette.

Another fix is for the grey app icon of the Google Play Store and a circular loading indicator that displays after a cold reboot while ARC (Android Runtime for Chrome) takes time to start. ChromeOS 109 finally fixes the issue, and it will launch with a fully colored icon, and users can wait on the loading screen instead. It is a visual tweak that brings mental satisfaction to users. Please let us know in the comments if you have received ChromeOS 109 on your Chromebook.
