Google Chat messaging interface has received significant tweaks. The latest update with the 2021.10.31.408397499 build introduces a bottom bar UI in the Google Chat app.
In the older build of Google Chat, the messaging field was unbounded. Also, the Gallery, Drive, Google Meet, Camera, and Calendar icons were present in a horizontal sequence right below the text field. For reference, I have attached a screenshot of the old interface of Google Chat.
With the new stable app version, a pill-shaped outline surrounds the text field. The Drive, calendar, camera, and other icons are now housed under a “+” icon that you have to tap to see these shortcuts in the list view.
This “+” icon is present to the left of the new messaging section. The gallery icon has shifted to the right-hand side of the messaging field. It will make it easy for the users to link the attachments from the device storage.
To upgrade to the stable version of the Google Chat you can grab it from the Play Store. Otherwise, you can grab the APK build of Google Chat and manually perform the update. Make sure you have enabled the permission on your Android device to install APKs from unknown sources.
